Yesterday’s Embers by Deborah Raney I have to share this book because it is such a moving, heartbreaking book! The gist of the story line is a father that becomes widowed when his wife and one of his daughters die in their sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning. He ends up attempting to raise five children on his own, loses his way from the faith he had in God, and falls for someone unexpectedly. However, this love turns into the need to fill a void.

I keep thinking about how we have to hold people responsible for their actions but at the same time we have to be reasonable in our expectations and sometimes I get confused about where one leaves off and the other begins. Like say you’ve got a friend who’s colorblind — it’d be stupid to get mad at them for doing a lousy job helping you pick out a skirt to match your favorite blouse, right
